The Rotary club of Meriden ACHIEVEMENTS IN 2020.
In December 2019 Our Fun run managed to raise £2550 which we used to support, foundation, Pancreatic Cancer, Marie Curie, special olympics group.
After our santa sleigh collections we were able to forward £2000 in donations to Aquabox, Marie Curie, foundation and the Presidents Charity.
On Xmas eve we collected food from Aldi supermarket and delivered it to a hostel in Coventry to provide xmas dinner for up to 50 homeless people.
In January 2020 a very welcome donation from the Avery trust allowed us to cover our costs for the senior citizens party and make a small profit.On 24th Jan we had our Burns night dinner at the Manor Hotel, an enjoyable evening
In Febuary, along came the Corona Virus, there was an urgent cry for help to support our local foodbanks, We donated £500 to the Woodlands school Food bank and £500 donated to the Trussel Trust food bank organisation. We were able to donate £50 to Birmingham Cathedral
In March, We reviewed local Covid activities to see where our help could best be utilised. We supported local volunteer groups producing PPE, providing food collections, delivering support etc,We contributed over £1100 to local groups.
In April the Club donated £500 to the Kings Hurst Covid volunteer Group.
In May and June We commenced a weekly face to face meeting at the Windmill for those that were able. We combined it with our weekly Zoom meetings which worked well. We were even able to have speakers again, in person and via Zoom.
In July, With the Prospect of the Manor not being able to re-open for some time and the Windmill The club agreed that the Windmill could be our new home.
In September we were able to organise our outdoor Golf day event. After expenses including green fees, prizes etc we were left with a profit of just over £500 for good causes.
During October, Santas Sleigh was pulled out of storage and prepared for a much needed re-furbishment. Following receipt of the district matching grant, the club make a major donation to the Halow Prison visitor centre project of £3000.
During November Plans are confirmed for a virtual fun run event this year.
In December We have had to confirm the cancellation of our Xmas party and the senior citizens party in January. Our virtual fun run took place, It has generated over £1700 in income for local charities. Unfortunately we had to take the decision to suspend Santa Sleigh collections however we have donated a sum of £250 to the British Legion Poppy Appeal and have inducted 2 new members into the club for the new year.
On Xmas eve members collected food from 3 Aldi locations and delivered it to the Coventry homeless centre, to feed 150 people in 3 sittings a full xmas dinner.
