National Success for Our Girl

Teamwork wins out for our 'Young Writer of the Year'

National Success in Rotary Youth Competition

Elizabeth Cheesman is a winner of the Rotary Young Writer Competition in the junior age group.  Although now a pupil at  Churston Ferrers  Grammar School she entered the competition whilst attending Preston Primary School.

The Rotary  Club of Preston has forged close links with the school and it was through this association and support by the head teacher and staff   that many pupils from this school entered the competition. Pupils from other local primary schools with which the  club has links also entered. After winning the club competition  Elizabeth’s entry went forward to the District round and after further success, secured  ultimate victory  in the national final - a remarkable achievement.

The aim of the Rotary Young Writer competition is to encourage young people  to produce a piece of writing  which can be fiction, non-fiction,  prose or poetry  using their creativity and imagination. The theme for Young Writer  2019-2020 was “Connections”. (The theme for  2020-2021 is “My Happiest Day”).

There are several other Youth competitions including Young Photographer, Young Artist, Young Filmmaker, Young Environmentalist, Young Musician, Youth Speaks: A Debate and Young Chef. Details of the competitions can be obtained via:  OR Google ‘Youth Competitions in Rotary’.
