Linden Warburton: Andy Maybury - Teviot Electric Car Club

Thu, Apr 1st 2021 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Andy is the coordinator of Teviot Electric Car Club and will tell us of its development and current activities.

Andy Maybury of Teviot Electric Car Club was the guest speaker for the most recent Zoom meeting of Hawick Rotary Club. He spoke of the development of the group, and of overcoming hurdles posed in finding a franchise partner and in obtaining insurance cover for users. They had now been successful in liaising with the Hiya Car group which provides online facilities and insurance. Andy described how the Car Club operates with their two cars, which are based at the Mart Street car park. He also spoke of their wish to increase the number of local users.

Rotarians present online asked a number of questions about the procedures for joining the Car Club, for booking cars, and for recharging their batteries, and there was discussion over charges for hire, over the ease of joining up, and over the battery range. It was emphasised that these cars are available for tourists or family friends coming to stay in the town and that sign-up procedures for British residents are very straightforward.

Linden Warburton gave an appreciative vote of thanks.
