FIFTY THOUSAND AND COUNTING

Local Rotarians and friends continue with the innoculation initiative

50,000 VACCINATIONS at Alfred Barrow Medical Centre in Barrow in Furness !

Over 50,000 coronavirus vaccinations have taken place at the Alfred Barrow Medical Centre in Barrow.

The landmark was reached on over the weekend of 21st April 2021.

96% of all over 70 year-olds in Barrow have now had their 1st jab and the vast majority have had their 2nd as well, and 66% of all over 55’s have had at least one vaccination. People in 30's are now being invited to come forward.

These figures put Barrow in the top four in the COUNTRY for carrying vaccinations per head of population.

The three Rotary clubs in Barrow have been providing important help with the local covid vaccination initiative since last December.

Working from the Alfred Barrow Health Centre volunteers have acted as helpers and marshals for the clinics.

This help equates to over 5,000 hours of voluntary service, assisting over 50,000 vaccinations.

Thirty-four Rotarians from the three local clubs of Furness, Furness Peninsula, and Barrow-in-Furness have been assisted by around forty family and friends, most of them working around two or three times a week.

The initiative has already received praise from Health Secretary Matt Hancock and High Sheriff of Cumbria Julie Barton.

It's collated by Rotarian Peter Garwood from the Rotary Club of Furness.
