Walk for ShelterBox

Wadebridge Rotarians on a charity walk to raise funds for ShelterBox

Walk for ShelterBox: 20 miles for 20 years

What do you need for the ideal charity walk?

Perfect weather, bright and sunny, but not overpoweringly hot – Tick.

A level, well surfaced trail (that won’t upset aged knees) – Tick.

Clear, calm river waters – Tick.

Superb natural views – Tick.

Good company (within Covid restrictions) – Tick.

The Wadebridge Rotary walk on Sunday, 25th April ticked all the boxes. The route took the walkers along the Camel Trail beside the river from Guineaport to Grogley Halt and looped back, passing a magnificent display of bluebells together with wild garlic and campions.

The 16 walkers were divided into three groups so as to abide by the rule-of-6: Paul (of the Boote persuasion), Wayne, Clive and Yvonne, their daughter Tamsyn and her partner Pat; Nigel and Liz, Roy and Sally, their daughter Elizabeth and her husband Pete; Keith and Gina, and Nick and Libby.

Clive’s group decided to extend the finish of the walk beyond Guineaport to the far end of The Platt, where fortuitously they found a watering hole known to locals as The Swan Hotel, at which it was possible to imbibe a pint, their first pint-at-a-pub for over a year.

The walk was the second in a sequence to raise funds for ShelterBox in commemoration of its twenty years as an international disaster relief agency. The first walk went from Lanhydrock to Lostwithiel (and back). There will be another two to make up the full distance of twenty miles. Funds raised from the first two walks have reached £293 (plus Gift aid), at the time of writing.

If you wish to make that amount larger, please donate on our Tap Simple page.
