Club update September 2020

Life at MK Watling has been different recently...

Update – September 2020

It’s been 6 months since our last public event and since then we have all found ourselves in a world that is very different from the one we inhabited at the start of the year.

As a Rotary club whose focus is to provide support to charities and the local community we, like most charitable organisations,  have been unable to do the things that we would normally, but Rotary is also about friendship with our fellow members and their families and supporting them and their friends.

Like many Rotary clubs we have continued to hold our monthly meetings but in a socially distanced way using the technology that is available to us in the form of Zoom. It’s not the same as being in a meeting room together but it has enabled us to interact with each other whilst making sure that we have continued to complete the tasks that need to be done to keep the club running.

Some of us were also able to use Zoom to have virtual quizzes and virtual games nights based on well-known board games and TV programmes with greater or lesser success.

As the world started to get back to “the new normal” a few of us were able to meet up for socially distanced picnics. This at least felt like we were getting back together albeit in a different way from the “old world” six months ago.

The latest picnic was to honour our president for last year and a chance for us to look back at what we had achieved, as well as receiving some thank you chocolates.

But now that normality is returning to a greater degree, as people are being encouraged to go back to work, cafes, pubs and restaurants are welcoming customers and pupils are returning to school, we hope that we may soon be able to return to engaging in community events.
