A photo of note!

Thu, Jun 17th 2021 at 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Members are asked to provide a photo which has particular meaning for them and to speak about its importance for five minutes.

The Club met on June 17th and this proved an interesting evening. Members had been asked to submit a memorable photograph which they could talk about for five minutes and so enjoyed a very varied bill of fare beginning with Macchu Picchu in Peru and progressing through Spain, Jordan, Japan, USA and Australia before closing with The Wallace Thorn monument beside Hawick Museum!

It was agreed that this was a format which could be used again in the future.

Meanwhile other matters have been progressing. Two further Amazon Fire Tablets have been obtained through Rotary International's Stress & Distress project and will be presented to the Reaching Out group for the use of dementia sufferers with their families.

The Club is also conferring Honorary Membership on long-time stalwart Jock Thorburn, who records show as having become a member in September 1985. A formal presentation will be made to Jock at the first physical meeting of the group when lockdown restrictions allow.

A meeting several months ago agreed that a further bag of 4000 crocuses would be obtained when available following on from the splendid displays achieved at Galalaw roundabout and along Weensland Road. However we have now learned that although the previous bags cost £80 and then £95 an equal amount would now be priced at £195, and so members have accepted that this could not be proceeded with.
