Helping Bridgend's Foodbank
We donated £4,000 to help the Foodbank cope with the significant increase in referrals for emergency food parcels during the Covid pandemic
An iniitial donation of £3,000 was given at the end of March 2020, when the Covid 19 virus had escalated and the country had just been put in lockdown.
"Our Charity Officer had made contact with Tricia Davies, Manager of Bridgend\'s Foodbank, in the middle of March, just before the virus escalated" said Brian Roberts, President of Rotary Bridgend. Because the contact had been made, we were able to make the donation very quickly and directly to our local Foodbank\'s bank account, ensuring it would have immediate benefit for our local community.
A further donation of £1,000 was made on June 12th 2020. These additional funds were the result of Rotary members' donations to the Club's Charity Account, in lieu of paying meal bills for the three months that members have been unable to meet.
Bridgend's Foodbank has seen a significant increase in referrals for emergency food parcels, compared to this time last year. The organisation, in thanking Rotary Bridgend, said "This generous donation will have a significant impact on helping individuals and families who are in crisis within the Borough."
