Community Champion

Bewdley Rotary Club is delighted to congratulate Kate Oakley, founder of the charity Planting for Hope Uganda, who has been selected by Rotary in Great Britain and Ireland as one of only six recipients of the prestigious RGBI Community Champions Award.

Kinver Rotary Club nominated Kate to Rotary District 1060 for the award and her nomination was selected by District Governor Tim Bushell to be forwarded to RGBI who received nominations from across the whole of the British Isles.

This award is given for outstanding work in the community at home and abroad and recognises Kate’s tireless drive to empower the community of Kititi by giving them hope through a self-supporting and sustainable future.

Bewdley and Kinver Rotary Clubs have supported her work in Uganda over a number of years in several projects to improve life in the bush community. The current project is a dormitory for 50 orphaned and vulnerable girls at the Cornerstone School in Kititi, which will provide safe accommodation, free education and health care.More about this project

Kate will be presented with her award at 2021 Virtual Awards evening on 30th June 2021.
