Turing Trust - James Turing

James Turing, our speaker for the evening, was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship, recognising his significant work in establishing and operating The Turing Trust. (This presentation had been delayed from Rodget Thom's presidential year.)

James then described  with photos and video, the excellent work the Turing Trust was doing to support IT studies in Sub Sahara Africa and in particular Malawi.

The support of Rotary and Andrew Clark in particular had been outstanding in the development of the charity over its 10+ years.

The statistics he quoted were impressive.

211 Schools in in 9 countries plus schools in the UK currently have been supplied with reconditioned hardware.

81000 pupils have benefited from the programmes.

6000 pieces of equipment shipped last year.

A wide teacher training programme

Solar Berry Project initiative unique and widely praised.

A gender specific promotion to promote Girls Education and participation in STEM subjects.

Personal appreciations from girl pupils on the benefits of these projects.

Doug Marr gave the VOT and expressed the pleasure the Club had obtained by being involved with and contributing to the ongoing success of this charity.
