Meet at Manor Golf Club

Rotary Club of Birstall Luddites
Annual Golf Tournament - 2021
The eagerly awaited ‘annual’ golf tournament took place at the Manor Golf Club on Monday
5 th July. After a rather wet day, the weather in the evening was kind as a small group of
sporting members gathered to battle it out to be the new champion.

President Nigel, the reigning champion, looked very professional with his very own clubs,
bag and trolley; perhaps a farce to be reckoned with?
Clubs and balls to hand, the intrepid group went out to attack the course, and attack they did with, not only the balls flying in all directions but, tees, turf, sand and clubs never being far behind.
Holes 3 and 4 are tricky to negotiate as play is adjacent to an adjoining field and at least two
players needed a ‘tree’ iron as their unguided missiles soared ungracefully in to the dividing
hedge – new balls please!

Some great banter kept everyone going as they hacked around the course and it was a good evening of fun and great to be able to socialise again after all this time!
After the score cards had been carefully checked and verified, the winner was declared, and
with a stunning score of just 29, Jeremy was crowned champion for 2021. The gathered
crowd were desperate to cheer and applaud, but could feel the tension as ex-champion and current President Nigel reluctantly handed over the winners shield, stating that ‘you canhold on to this until next year’…..OUCH! It seems that he’s thrown down the gauntlet, or club, and desperately wants to win back the coveted trophy!
Our new champion later stated that he was ‘delighted to win against such stiff competition
– stiff shoulders, stiff necks, arms and legs, between us we had them all!’

Ed: although a score of 29 does indeed sound ‘stunning’, this was only over 6 holes….but
everyone deserves their moment of glory!
