Thank you so much for your grant, which I received just before the first lockdown began. I was scheduled to race at the British Championships that weekend in March before it was forced to cancel. Eventually it became clear that my entire Spring race season would be cancelled. I continued to train in anticipation of possibly being selected to race at the Junior World Championships - postponed until October. In September 2020 I competed in the GB trials in the Lake District. Three solid performances saw me earn a place on the GB Team. After training incredibly hard to get myself to my first Junior World Orienteering Championships, the ‘second wave’ hit Turkey, leading to the race's postponement to 2021.
After the disappointment of not being able to compete in international competition in 2020, I set my sights on the 2021 season. Following another long and tough period of solitary training I arrived at the British Championships (May) in peak fitness. Over the three days of racing I positioned 2nd, 2nd and 5th. These results secured me a place on the GB Team for the Junior World Championships 2021, set to take place in Turkey in September.
In a period when training seemed futile with no races scheduled I remained focused and achieved a lifetime goal. In the time between now and the World Champs I plan to train hard both individually at home, as well as alongside the GB Team on future training camps.
