3.     Mental Health Conference at Christchurch, Cockermouth between 1 and 4PM on Friday 8th October. Details have been emailed to members.

5.     Polio Day Sunday 24th October 2021. The Workington Clubs will be having a lunch at 2PM at the Carnegie Theatre. It will be an Asian menu. Cost 15 PP. Last call, Friday 8th of October. Please contact Secretary Ronnie, BY EMAIL if you wish to go giving the names of all in your party.

Secretary’s Announcements:

1.     Whitehaven Castle 14.10.21. The speaker at their evening meeting will be PDG Welma Robinson who will talk about her life in South Africa. She will also briefly talk about Foundation. The meal choice is roast beef or salad for £12. Please let Secretary Ronnie know BY EMAIL if you wish to go along with your choice of meal.

2.     Penrith Charter. Friday 15th October at 7 for 7.30 at the George Hotel. Formal. Cost £27. The speaker will be a representative from Riders for the Disabled. This invitation has been sent to members. Please let Secretary Ronnie know if you are going by the 8th of October as well as your choice of food.

3.     RC Cockermouth charter will be on Friday 28th January 2022. Details will be available nearer the time.

Mike Reid:

1.     This month’s photo competition will be extended for one week until 6.10.21.

2.     There are seven spaces left in the bottle draw. This month’s bottle is supplied by Foundation.

3.     Rotary Christmas cards are still on sale. The closing date is 16.10.21.

Ian Watson:

Ian has twenty Remembrance Lapel Badges which were supplied by John Bushby.  These cost £3 each. Please contact Ian if you would like one.

Members of RC Whitehaven and friends raise £300 for Hospice at Home West Cumbria by selling refreshments and raffle prizes at the Egremont Farmer's Market on Friday 15th October 2021

Rotarians Tony Tait [Whitehaven Castle] and Ronnie Proudfoot [Whitehaven] renovating bollards which will be placed in the main promenade.

This is a programme devised by our daughter club Whitehaven Castle; It is an example of Rotary in Action and has the strap line "Environmental Pride". The object is to tidy up the signs, bollards etc in Whitehaven Harbour.

An update on this 3 year project to tidy up the harbour at Whitehaven and improve the environment. To date we have refurbished 21 metal bollards, 100 feet of metal railings and have cleaned signage and other metal furniture.


Our activities were severely constrained during this period. However, we did maintain our giving: NORTH CUMBRIA FOOD BANK £1410 CALVERT TRUST £1270

Together with our colleagues from the Rotary Club of Whitehaven Castle we planted 4,000 purple crocus corms at Whitehaven Harbour. We are hopeful that our 30+ year programme to rid the world of this disease is nearing its end. Thanks for your support.
