Lessons Learned / Thought for the Week

Week 8

Are you sure this is what they meant by a face to face meeting?

So, this week, we had our first Face to Face meeting for 18 months at West Bradford Golf Club – a huge thank you to Toni and the staff there who have supported our contributions to Bradford Met Food Bank during Covid.
It was exactly 47 years to the day since we were formed according to the date on our framed Charter certificate, so a perfect day to be meeting up at last and enjoying each other’s company again. Still too soon for some of us who will continue to “Zoom in” for the moment. But
“Good friends are like stars – you don’t always see them but you know they’re always there”

Week 7

Sorry, no blog this week

Week 6

Out of the mouths of babes – and puppies!

This is what happens when the mascot helps prepare the agenda for our council meeting!

But she was right – does she have a sixth sense? This agenda turned out to be far too long and the time allowed too short.

So I have learned another lesson this week and am determined to do better next time.
Inspired by the Olympic athlete, Kim Collins, I have revised last week’s quote and I shall now
“Strive for continuous improvement instead of perfection”.

Week 5

Little Tyke

Yorkshire day this week and we didn’t celebrate – not only due to Covid – but also my flat cap was stolen!

But it is a chance to remember our Rotary celebrations in previous years.

“God’s Own Country” has seen so many changes over the years, but it keeps its identity in times of upheaval, just as Rotary is having to do now.

Our club has been amazed at how we have adapted to everything on-line and, as we get ready to celebrate restarting our Face to Face meetings, we shall strive to keep the good parts of Zoom including our future “hybrid” lunch meetings allowing members, guests and speakers to join on-line if they wish.

And we are building upon changes we have already made. We have become less formal, more flexible and now offer three ways of practising Rotary: our traditional lunch group; Sidekicks for those with little time to spare for meetings; and our new E group for those with absolutely no time to spare but who want to be Rotarians!

The idea is that each group decides upon its projects and anyone from all 3 groups help with those that enthuse them.

As Winston Churchill said, “To improve is to change, to be perfect is to change often”.

The Rotary Club of Bradford West is aiming for perfection.
