Rotary Club of Orleans, with which we have a long association and friendship, are hosting Joan of Arc celebrations in May 2022. In order to promote International friendship, the RC of Orleans club have invited a delegation of between 10 – 15 people from our club and also, RCs of Pallanza-Stresa (Italy) and Wiesbaden (Germany). RC of Dundee Rotaracters are also most welcome and the Orleans Rotaracters would be delighted to accompany and host for the duration of the stay.
Suggested dates and itinerary are as follows –
Thursday 5 May
Travel to Orleans for an evening welcome and settling in accommodation.
Friday 6 May
Visit the ‘Cosmetic Valley’, Chamerolles Castle and perfume museum, meeting with other delegations and official reception.
Saturday 7 May
Discover Orleans and the banks of the River Loire and spend an evening in town enjoying the public festivities.
Sunday 8 May
Join the Joan of Arc festivities before departing for home.
Accommodation
RC of Orleans members are willing to host members of the delegations at no cost. However, if you prefer, hotel accommodation is also available at your own expense.
Costs
RC of Orleans anticipate those Rotary members attending will be required to pay about 300 euros per head in order to cover meals, transport during the stay and entertainment. Intention is to subsidise Rotaracter costs, which will therefore be minimal.
Travel to and from Orleans
Easyjet fly from Edinburgh to Paris. Return tickets are currently available (including bags) for about £130. Outgoing flight departs Edinburgh lunchtime on the Thursday and inbound departs Paris at teatime on the Sunday. Other flight times are available. A rail journey via Eurostar takes over 10 hours and is about 4 times the cost of a flight.
Interest
President Andy would like to support this invitation and asks members to consider attending. An invitation will be extended to members of RC of Orleans to join our Centenary Charter so there is an opportunity to reciprocate hospitality and further cement friendships. Any members interested should contact PP Alastair for a chat during which he will be only too happy to speak of his of fond memories of previous visits.
