Also on a Bank holiday Sunday when clouds are conspicuous by their absence (a rare occasion in England) the blue sky and holiday attracts not only vendors in large numbers but also the local community en masse to investigate the possibility of bargains on offer.
And so that was the case on the Sunday morning of the August Bank holiday weekend for the Rotary Boot, Craft and Produce Fair on the West Martello Field when the sky was an unbroken sea of blue above Martello Fields.
The air was not as warm as would normally be expected for late August due to a gentle north easterly breeze, but this did not deter large crowds from hovering around the stalls searching for elusive bargains.
As is usual at such a Fair, there were some less common items available for the intrepid buyer.
These included a box of fishing flies, several fancy-dress outfits including one of Snow White, a wicker meditation chair (shaped in the Lotus position), a couple of indoor fish tanks, and a pair of canoeing oars (no canoe to go with it), and for the avid collector three porcelain dolls complete with boxes.
A large telescope complete with tripod was on sale; the stall holder was unable to confirm its magnification having obtained it as part of a job lot, but from inspection it seemed ideal for the budding astronomer or star gazer as well as being suitable for spying on the man in the moon.
There were several carpets, nests of tables, and a piano stool as well as a lamp standard constructed from a step ladder.
Some stallholders specialised in particular goods including for example jigsaw puzzles, fake flower bouquets and displays, jams, local historical postcards, costume jewellery and fishing equipment.
There were not so many golf balls for sale as in the early August Fair; maybe the standard of golf at the two Seaford courses has improved and less balls have been lost.
more SEAFORD ROTARY would like to express its immense gratitude to those members of the Seaford community who attended the Rotary Boot, Craft and Produce Fairs in 2021, stallholders and the public, all contributed to making the fairs this year a great success.

more An additional fair was arranged for 11th October, and although there was a north wind which kept the temperature cool for the early starters, the sky was blue, the wind light and soon a continuous flow of people arrived to investigate possible bargains.
more It was a cold strong northerly wind that greeted the stallholders as they arrived to set up for the second Rotary Boot Fair on the last Sunday in September.
more An early morning rain shower did not deter the eager stallholders who arrived to set up at the second Rotary Boot, Craft and Produce Fair on the Martello Fields on 6th September.
more The Sunday morning dawned with a warm blue sky accompanied by the occasional white cloud and a gentle breeze, ideal weather for the return of the Seaford Rotary Boot, Craft and Produce Fair after a long absence.
more The Saturday before the fair was warm and sunny and so when the morning of Sunday 2nd June also dawned sunny seventy-six stall holders were tempted to ply their wares at the June Boot, Craft and Produce Fair.
more A clear blue sky, and although the north wind was chilly, 58 stallholders were attracted to the May Boot, Craft and Produce Fair on West Martello Field.
more There were 55 stalls, down on the 79 stalls last year. Last year was, however, exceptional, in no other year have there been 55 stalls in April.
