Betty McDonald

Personal life

I have 2 Daughters and 3 Grandchildren, who I am immensely proud of and when I am not volunteering, I am usually doing the school run or looking after my Grandchildren’s pets.

Having lived and worked in Inverclyde all my life, I am very committed to making a difference in my local community and I am equally committed to making a difference in Rotary.

Professional Background

I worked for Inverclyde Council, which is my Local Authority for almost 30 years in a variety of jobs.

My first job was Manager of the Accounts Section of the Housing Department and then I became Head Cashier, where I was responsible for staff in Greenock , Gourock and Port Glasgow Housing Offices.

After that, I was promoted to the Accommodation Manager for Greenock West and latterly, as Homeless Services Manager, which was the most fulfilling post, where I had responsibility for staff, budgets and finding temporary and permanent accommodation homeless families.

My charity work includes being Vice Chair of Oak Tree Housing Association, a Board Member of “Your Voice” Health & Homelessness Committee, a Board Member of CVS (Third Sector Interface) and Chairperson of Phoenix Safe Harbour, which is a mental health charity helping to rehabilitate the most vulnerable in our society.

Rotary Experience and Interests

Since joining Rotary in 2008 I have enjoyed being involved in local, district and International projects. Having been President and Secretary of Greenock Rotary, I have also chaired various Committees, served as District Community Chair and as Assistant District Governor for 3 years.
