A number of local schools, both primary and secondary have for many years participated in several of the competitions run by Rotary GB & I.

Competitions are initially run on a club basis with winning entries going forward to District, then potentially National level

In December 2020 the Rotary club of Kinver submitted its winning entries to the district round of the competition for the various categories of the Young Writer competition which this year had a theme of “My Happiest Day.

In June we were notified that Max McCartney of The Corbett Primary School Bobbington came 1st in the Junior Category of the district competition and therefore went forward to the national round of the competition. Competing against winners from potentially all the other 22 districts that make up Rotary GB & I, Max was awarded 2nd place in the national competition

This was a great result and the club congratulates Max on such an outstanding success.

Max's story featured a boy named Ben whose most important memory was seeing his grandfather again. It was only the one day, but it was Ben’s ‘Happiest Day

His entry brought the comment from the judges that they were moved by the story of loss and then surprised by the amazing twist of the lead character being reunited with his grandfather.

A recent Macmillan Cancer Support coffee morning run by Kinver Rotary gave the club the opportunity to meet both Max and his parents and to present him with his award, which really does mean such a lot to him.

His parents were filled with pride at his achievement and grateful to the club for giving him the chance to tell his story.

The attached photograph taken at the event, shows District Councillor Mrs Lin Hingley, her consort Ken Hingley, along with Graham Smith Youth Chairperson of the club making the presentation to Max.
