Youth leadership course

Bourne Rotary RYLA candidate

The Rotary Club of Bourne were pleased to invite Rebecca Fry to a recent meeting where she spoke about her experiences on her Rotary Youth Leadership Awards ( RYLA ) course held at Grafham Water at the end of July.

The Club were pleased to have been able to provide a place for Rebecca on the course and are hopeful that more young people will be able to take up future places and benefit from the experience.

Rebecca said:-

“During my week at Grafham Water I have had the opportunity to learn new skills and to reaffirm my confidence in myself and my own growing leadership skills. Not only did I acquire the knowledge of how to sail and paddle board. I also learnt how to overcome my nerves, whether through climbing on the high ropes or public speaking. RYLA gives many opportunities to learn from each other; experts in a particular field, our peers and our tutors.

Everything we learnt throughout our time there will definitely help me in my future, through map reading, to learning how to public speak, to understanding the importance of planning and compromise, but also to know what makes a great leader and what kind of leader I wish to be and portray to others. I have gained so much from my experience and I want to thank the Bourne Rotary Club for giving me the opportunity to participate in this eye-opening experience.”
