BREAKFAST

Remaining Business for the Year:               David M gave a financial report.  Everything is OK with £400 remaining in the Club account, and £1200 in the Charity account.  Outstanding commitments (donations) from the year just ending include the Shed for Rising Sun and the dishwasher for the Over-60’s club.  The delay with the latter is getting the kitchen re-arranged to create space.  Nick said he knows someone for this. Kathy is to contact Anna from Foodfriends to arrange to hand over their final cheque – Anna is not able to attend a breakfast meeting.

Nick reminded members again about the need to sell tickets for the Race Night

(Saturday 20th August at All Saints).

Andrew B has replied to District saying Yes, we will host another Global Scholar.

Regarding the donation to Odessa University, District have sent Andrew B and Lesley a mostly-completed form which they will finish and return.

Andrew M said that the notes of the recent board meeting suggested some ambivalence about whether TWAM would go ahead next year.  He confirmed that he has spoken to the organisers and it will do so.

Any Other Business:        Dave C said that a speaker from SNAAP spoke to his retirement group and Monday.  She described how the last couple of years they have helped families whose young people attend the centre with hampers of food & toys etc  at Christmas.  Dave wondered if we could offer to help provide seasonal supplies towards this?Members suggested that we could use some of the food donations from our Christmas run.  Suggested that Dave write to them and ask if they get food from the local food banks?  Dave will make an enquiry without committing us.

Pete said that he has a new potential member – Lee Harman.  He will invite him along to a breakfast meeting.

Reminder that next week we have children and teachers attending from Walk4Water, probably 8 or 9 in total.

Jean M said that she had a conversation with the co-ordinators for Whitstable’s response to refugees from Ukraine.  Jean said that they are proud people who do not want to depend on handouts.  So, there is a need for jobs for them.  Several members offered suggestions as to how they can quickly obtain National Insurance numbers.  Chris said that approximately 60 people attended her social evening at the Cozy Cat Cafe last night, of whom 11 have found work.  However, for many, the problem is finding a job which works around school and childcare responsibilities.  Pippa said that AGE UK is always looking for cleaners, and the pay is not bad.

Jean M reminded members about the Concert for Ukraine on 5th July at the Crescent Turner hotel.  (This is the same night as the next board meeting.)

Greetings from Other Clubs:        Reggie said he was out in Sierra Leone recently.  He had lunch at a meeting of the Rotary club in Freetown.  He wondered if we could make a link with them?

Kathy and Andrew & Pat B went on a nine mile walk at the week end organised by Wealden Rotary.

Upcoming Birthday:        Lesley gave a card to Sue.

Raffle:                   Was won by Maureen.

Master-at-Arms:              Nick told us that today is World Tapas Day, and tomorrow is World Bin Day.

Final Toast:         Given by Hilary.

Next Meeting:
