WASH in Chennai Project

Report on Foundation Global Grant Project to install sustainable toilet facilities in a school in Chennai

A montage ot the stages of the project through construction to inauguration event.

In January 2019 we started talking to Bath Club about the Sanitation First project they were working on in Chennai. We had a history of supporting the Sanitation First Charity because we were so impressed by the sustainable nature of their projects and the way the use of the composted waste supports the longer tem maintenance of the facilities.

As with so many things the Pandemic interfered with progress but Bath Club persisted with Madras Club who acted as the local host club, our selves, Warick Club and our Districts to put the funds together.

In the Summer of 2021 between Covid waves the construction began and in February 2022 after the peak of the Omicron wave the facility was inaugurated.

The montage illustrates the stages of the project which was superviced by the lHost Club on site.

Hopefully this project will provide a model for the deployment of similar facilities in cities across India.
