Financial Support for Ukraine's People

CITY CENTRE COLLECTION AND ROTARY DONATIONS RAISE £6500 FOR THE UKRAINIAN HUMANITARIAN APPEAL

On Saturday and Sunday, 5th and 6th March, the people of Dundee dug deep in their pockets to donate to a cash collection, conducted around the City Square, in support of the Ukrainian Humanitarian Appeal.

Organised by Claverhouse Rotary Club, the collection raised urgently needed monies for the British Red Cross and the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC), which unites 15 member charities who are experts in providing humanitarian aid and different areas of disaster response to Ukrainians affected by the ravages of war.

The generosity of the Dundee public knows no bounds.  £6500 was raised from both the cash collection and from donations made by Claverhouse Rotary with contributions from both the Government and a benefactor, Jacks Flight Club. The funds raised have been speedily donated to provide essential food, water, shelter, healthcare and protection for those families who are already experiencing monumental suffering.

During the weekend, collectors were personally approached and thanked by local Ukrainians living in and around Dundee for the generosity, kindness and support of the Dundee public who have shown solidarity with the Ukrainian people during their times of acute hardship.

Robert Burns, President of Claverhouse Rotary Club, said “ We have all been bowled over by the sums of money freely given by Dundee folks of all ages and the comments made by the public in support of our Ukrainian friends. The depth of feeling in the City is very strong and many have been both upset and angered by the devastation, displacement and loss of life in this great country. Our hearts go out to all Ukrainian people who have left behind their homes, belongings and loved ones and have been forced to flee, through no fault of their own.  We will seek ways of how we can provide further help over the time ahead as the war continues and more people are affected”.

Donations can be made online by visiting the DEC Ukraine Appeal website or via the British Red Cross – DEC Ukraine Appeal webpage.
