Late in 2021 the Rotary Club of Knighton and District held the second of their Young Photographer competitions, with the theme being “The Colours of Nature”. By the closing date of January 31st 2022 there were 32 entrants aged between 6 and 18 years old. The judging was held in early February with prizes being awarded by the Rotary Club to each of the first, second and third places in the age groups 6 to 11 years, 12 to 15 years, and 16 to 18 years old,

On April 19th 2022 at the opening in Knighton Library of an exhibition of all the 32 entrants in the competition, representatives of Knighton Rotary Club presented several of the winners with certificates. As incoming President Kim Smith said “We are very pleased to see the photographic entries from so many talented Young Photographers. In our eyes everyone is a winner!” Knighton Librarian Hannah Isaacson added “We are proud to be able to display these amazing photographs both in the main library and in the hallway. We also thank the Knighton Rotary Club for all their efforts in creating such a beautiful display from such a wonderful collection of photographs on the Colours of Nature theme”

The photos taken on the day show Florence Kuipers who was first place in the 12 to 15 age group and who also was Rotary President Margaret Thorp’s choice of the competition. Certificates were also presented to Robin Fletcher (second place in the 12 to 15 age group) Ellie Hunter (first in the 6 to 11 age group) Paige Wood (second in the 6 to 11 age group) and Rhea Scragg (third in the 6 to 11 age group).  The display will continue for four weeks during the opening times of the Knighton Library which are Tuesday 10.30am - 1pm & 2-5pm Thursday 10.30am -1pm & 2-6pm and Friday 8am - 12.30pm.
