Members of our club attended our district conference in Oxford on 18th and 19th March. The conference was an opportunity to meet up with other Rotarians, to speak with local charities and organisations in the conference village and to hear some amazing speakers tell their inspirational stories.
It was also a chance for Karen Eveleigh, our district governor this year, to say thank you to just a few of the amazing Rotarians in our district. Karen had asked for club presidents for nominations and we were delighted that Jenny Owens from our club was recognised and presented with a certificate and thank you mug.
As Karen explained “there are so many people who do amazing work in our clubs and our communities and today is just about recognising a few of them”
Jenny was recognised and thanked for her involvement in many club projects over the years. Club president Manjit said:
“Jenny is an amazing personality who is ever ready to help almost any person she comes across with a trademark smile. Through the difficult times of the pandemic she has not only assisted by arranging food to be collected & distributed food via the food bank but has personally taken responsibility of delivering food to the needy homes. In addition she volunteers her help to numerous charitable activities & if we were to start listing them we will need for this citation to be read for several minutes.”
“I was delighted to be able to present awards to Jenny and other Rotarians from across our district. It was particularly nice to be able to share the stories of club activities and projects with all those present at the conference. One of the priorities for my year as district governor is to help club tell their stories and so these awards fit really well with that.” Karen Eveleigh
