Rtn Brian Hazelhurst at Heywood 2020, address our club to help a charity well known to him in Ethiopia called Project Harar and the club stepped up. With the help of Rtn Edwin Partridge, Brian organised an International Night and invited all the clubs in our local cluster to come along to list to the CEO of Project Harar and we took the opportunity to invite and get to know a well known Rotary charity, Aquabox to talk about what they do.
At the end of the evening, DG Elect Rtn Swati Mukajee challenged all the clubs there to look at supporting these two charities with a donation of £150 for Project Harar to fund a cleft pallet operation and £250 to Aquabox to fund a water fliter.
The Clubs did not disappoint! Rochdale East Rotary Club got in touch and asked the cluster to work with them to host an International Evening in June as a continuation of our evening back in November. Rochdale and Middleton, along with us, accepted this invitation and worked together to put a lovely evening on at Rochdale Golf Club.
The night was a great success and along with Aquabox and Project Harar, we invited another Rotary Charity, Shoebox to come along and talk to Rotarians there. There was a delicious international themed buffet served and over £300 was raised on a raffle.
