President 2021-2022

Aileen North becomes First Lady

The Rotary Club of West Fife has just welcomed the first lady member to become President.  Retired Headteacher Aileen North is Dunfermline born and attended Blacklaw Primary School and Dunfermline High School.

On joining Rotary in 2015 Aileen found her teaching career a huge asset when pursuing community and youth projects locally.

Having qualified in Primary School Teaching at Callendar Park College Of Education, Aileen taught in Fife until 1987. For the next year she taught in Norfolk and then for the 90s in Oxfordshire and continued teaching career. In 2000 Aileen became Headteacher at Aston And Cote Primary School, Witney and made two British Council Visits to the USA in 2003.

In the States she attended the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia studying teaching of Gifted and Talented pupils and then in Washington DC studying their Values Programme.

Aileen moved back to Fife in 2006 to take up Headship at Dunearn Primary School in Kirkcaldy, Canmore and Crossgates Primaries. Her experience was also of value to the Fife Council School Estates Team covering school closures as Sustainable Schools Estate Officer.  After enjoying 42 years in teaching, Aileen retired at the end of 2013.

On joining Rotary, they sent her back to school!  Aileen headed up the West Fife club’s End Polio Now awareness campaign, comprising presentations to 12 local Primary Schools. She became Youth Convenor developing schools’ involvement in Rotary Youth Competitions, notably Young Musician, Young Photographer and Young Artist.  As a direct consequence the Rotary Club of West Fife won the Scotland North District Youth Award in 2018.

In preparation for taking the chair, Aileen in the last year has supported her Rotarian husband Robert take over youth responsibilities and expanding competitions to include Young Environmentalist and Young Film Maker.
