Following last years success Danny Poland and the community in Irthington have been busy preparing for the judging of the Finals of the Royal Horticultural Society Britain in Bloom competition. They are finalists in the Village category alongside five other villages throughout the UK which is really impressive.
Once again we provided a grant to Irthington Village School to support them with planting and other gardening activities to help with their contribution to the competition and also to Cumbria in Bloom Competition.
The judging for the Britain in Bloom competition was at the beginning of August when two judges from the RHS were shown around the village and spoke to some members of the community. The organisers, locals and funders gathered together at St Kentigern’s Church to welcome the judges followed by refreshments.
Two members from Brampton & Longtown Rotary were invited along as a thank you for our support, and to look around the colourful and interesting village displays.
Results from the Cumbria in Bloom competition are due in September, and the Britain in Bloom competition in October.
Good luck Irthington in Bloom!
