President’s Diary August 2022
31 July Handover. We were lucky with the weather. Had a great turnout including members, honorary members, friends of Rotary and members of Casterbridge and Poundbury. We had a wonderful afternoon thanks to Carolyn allowing us the use of her garden. We were privileged to have some beautiful music played by Ezster and Mark on the flute and guitar respectively. We now have Garry as PE and Stan as PN.

Celia presented David Camp with the Community Award for 2022. He received a certificate and his chosen charity is the Three Ells Trust.
It was an honour to present the Paul Harris Fellow to the most deserving Carolyn. Janet organised a raffle which raised £191 for Nepal.
The Southwell Bash went well. There were lots of stall holders and a good turnout. Pauline and Geoff were really grateful for the marquee. I dropped it off on Friday, Garry and Robert put it up.
Praise from Pauline went to our helpers on Saturday - Jo, David and Val.
Robert and I took the marquee down on Sunday
Long Service Awards were presented at Handover

Fun Dog Show Sunday 21 August
The weather threatened to be inclement, yet on the day there was cloud and wind in the morning which became warm and sunny/cloudy in the afternoon. A great day. 18 members and honorary members came to help as well as friends of Rotary. Over £600 was raised. Amazing work by everybody . Especially congratulations to Jayne, Sarah, and of course Brian, Jo and the Youth team for so much hard work in organisation.

Meanwhile Saturday 13 was a really special day when youngest son Ade married Ellie. Here in Bristol for the reception at the Avon Gorge. (Although appearing somewhat distant I was trying to avoid standing on Ellie’s wedding dress!)

Donations made £100 to Chicken Rescue and Portland Food Bank requested by Andrew Cowling after his excellent talk on herbalism. Plus £100 given to the Islanders for setting up a sensory garden

Ukraine Collection 26-7 August. Tanks to Tesco and our community that raised a total of
Radiotherapy Centre Project. In 2018 I visited Swindon to undertake an advance site visit for a project by Swindon Rotary Club. Oxford University Hospital wished to build a new radiotherapy centre at Swindon. The cost of the project was £18 million for the building and one LINAC (linear accelerator)
A further £2.9 million was required to purchase a second LINAC. In support for this project Swindon Rotary raised a total of £333,000 including a global grant of $103,056 from the Rotary Foundation. The build has gone head despite delays due to Covid. TRF require a follow up visit so I will shortly return to review this project now that it has been completed.
