Letter of Condolence from Germany

We have received this letter from our members in Germany:

To the Rotary Club of Cardiff Breakfast

Dear President Stephen!
Dear Secretary Maggie!

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Her Majesty the Queen.

For as long as we can remember, Her Majesty the Queen has been present as a person of contemporary history. Since we lived in Cardiff with our two sons, Maximilian and Alexander, we have had a deep connection to the United Kingdom and its people. Her Majesty the Queen has also been present in our family since then.

We have regularly followed the news and watched on BBC the celebrations in which the Queen has participated. We have always been impressed by her sense of duty, her dedication and her humble, tireless and committed way of dealing with people and giving respect and guidance to them and to the countries where she was Head of State for 70 years.

Because of her immense experience, her advice was also sought and appreciated by many other peoples and their leaders throughout the world. In Germany, she was highly respected and revered. With her, we Germans have also lost a loyal friend and advocate.

Her death marks the end of an entire era and is a great loss to the United Kingdom, to the Commonwealth, and to the many countries and people with whom Her Majesty the Queen had close ties.

It is with the greatest respect and compassion that we join with the Royal Family and the people of the United Kingdom in mourning the loss of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who will remain unforgettable to us all.

We wish the British people unity and confidence in these difficult times and the heir to the throne, His Majesty King Charles III, strength and foresight in his responsibilities as Head of State and in his leadership for Britain and the Commonwealth and their friends and allies around the world.

We ask you, dear Stephen and Maggie, to forward this letter of condolence to the members of the Rotary Club of Cardiff Breakfast.

Wiesbaden/Germany on September 8, 2022.
