From Dun Laoghaire to South Queensferry was the title of the interesting and entertaining talk given by member Sarah Fletcher to the Rotary Club of South Queensferry on 27th October. Sarah was born in Dun Laoghaire. her family moved to Belfast and she was educated at Friends' School, Lisburn. Her tertiary education was at Aston University, Birmingham, Aberdeen University and Abertay University where she studied physics. Sarah settled in Dundee where she taught physics, latterly becoming head of the physics department at the High School of Dundee. At Dundee Sarah took part in activities ranging from talking at Dundee Science Centre to organising Red Nose Day at the High School. She also worked for Bright Red Publishing in co-operation with the Scottish Science Advisory Committee which co-ordinates and supports science education across Scotland. At Bright Red, she was instrumental in  producing a book of questions relating to physics examinations.

Sarah is a keen participant in sports and, since moving to Queensferry, is actively involved in charity work including Macmillan Cancer Relief and, of course, Rotary.

Irene Brownless introduced the speaker and Rashida Saeed proposed the vote of thanks.
