Civic Grants and Awards DInner at the Laverton HAll in Westbury

Westbury Rotary Club President, Jon Street and Hon Rtn Cavan Algar represented the club at the Civic Awards and Grants Dinner held by Westbury Council and hosted by the Mayor, Sheila Kimminns.

The evening was very well attended by the good folk of Westbury that were invited by Mayor Sheila Kimminns

Many grants were handed over to the various groups that had applied to the Council for funding.  One of which was for the Thursday lunches at the White Horse Day Centre organised by Rotarian Sue Ezra, erstwhile Rotary President and Westbury Mayor.  Two other grants of note were the Westbury Lions and the Westbury Link group who provide transport to and from hospital etc.

In all over £38000 in grants were awarded.

Civic awards to also given to notable local groups.  A group that got a special mention was the Westbury Area Network (WAN).  WAN was founded by Ian Cooper who is still instrumental in the day to day running.  WAN provides as essential service to all in Westbury and is open to all who need some help with food.  All their food is donated by local shops and WAN is run by volunteers.

It is heart-warming to see that so many individuals and groups in Westbury give of their time so freely without looking for reward.
