Supporting a BMX rider

BMX star and local resident, Sienna Harvey, told us about her punishing training schedule and her plans for the future. We were pleased to support Sienna with a grant but she needs even more support from the local community to reach her potential.

We had a real treat in January 2023, when up and coming BMX star and local resident, Sienna Harvey, told us about her punishing training schedule and her plans for the future.

Sienna is 16, but is already making waves in the BMX racing scene, having won the 16 year group women’s British Championship in Bournemouth last year.

So, how do you top that triumph? Obviously, you go and compete in Europe, at the indoor BMX Championships in St Etienne, France. Sienna won the 16 women’s event there on 10th December last year, against tough world class opposition. Sienna was delighted that she beat girls she had never beaten before, so this was another step in her pursuit of Olympic glory in 2028!

There is a BMX course at Blackwater in Cornwall, but to train on racing standard circuits she has to travel to Newton Abbot weekly and even to Manchester on a regular basis for the championship level courses and coaching she needs. Sienna showed us her BMX bike and explained how winning races depends on having an explosive start as well as a high level of strength and fitness. The club is proud to have supported Sienna last year and we look forward to following her career in the future.
