DG Gail Savage

Personal life

I was brought up in the shoe industry town of Rushden, Northamptonshire. I still have family who live in Rushden. I am married to Iain; I have 1 Step-Son and 2 Step-Children. I currently live in Cambuslang.

I am a very active bowler and am a member of Kirkhill Bowling Club. I am double club ladies champion, District Triples Champion and have represented the club at the National Finals in Ayr.

My hobbies also include crafting, stitching and reading.

Professional Background

My main background is administration. I had a Saturday job in the local library. My admin career started in a Leather tanners/dressers which supplied the leather to the shoe industry. I then moved to an Engineering company which supplied specialist Mixing, Metering Equipment. I was responsible for the spares and despatching the machines.

Since being in Glasgow I now work in medical administration, I spent 10 years in a GP practice in the East End of Glasgow and I am now at the Marie Curie Hospice as the patient administrator. This is a very rewarding job role as I am the one responsible in offering beds to the patients to come into the hospice. I feel that every day I am doing service above self.

Rotaract & Rotary Experience and Interests

I joined Rotaract in 1995 and was actively involved in Rushden Rotaract and District. I was lucky enough to become the Rotaract District Chair in 2003/2004, which was a great experience, and the highlight was speaking at District 1070 conference in Bournemouth in front of 500 people.

I joined Rotary in 2011, I have been actively involved in most roles of Rotary, I have served as Secretary for Glasgow North & Bishopbriggs. I continue to support Rotaract and have served as the Rotaract Team Lead. Prior to becoming District Governor, I was Assistant Governor for Area 7 which was a wonderful Rotary experience.
