“BEXHILL ROTARIANS THROW A GREAT TEA PARTY”

Bexhill Rotary Club staged yet another successful tea party at St. Augustine’s Church Hall in Bexhill by inviting some sixty local senior citizens along for some fun and laughter to go with the sustenance on offer, and there was plenty of all of it during the afternoon!

After Rotarians had ferried their guests to the party, things got started at 2 o’clock with sherry or orange juice along with a welcome from MC Bexhill Rotarian John Coles who proceeded in telling jokes and even impersonated a one-arm bandit, much to the amusement of everybody.

After this came songs and music from pupils at St. Richards Catholic College who really lit up the place with their joyous enthusiasm and expertise.   At the end of their performance they were give a hearty and well deserved applause.  They were followed by more music from the dynamic guitar strumming duo of Bexhill Rotarians Brian Cope and Phil Johnson who sang whilst the guests tucked into their tea of sandwiches and cakes, and no indigestion was reported!

After the sandwiches and cakes had been consumed, it was the turn of entertainer Ritchie Lee to round off the afternoon with an hour of song and laughter, and dancing to his music by some of the enthusiastic audience.

Finally at 4.30 it was the turn of Rotary District Governor Paul Frostick to wind things up by thanking everybody for coming along and the Deputy Mayor of Bexhill Claire Baldry for supporting the event, after which the guests were driven home by the Rotarians having had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.

Organiser David Dixson, Chair of the Community Service Committee who put on the event, said he was really pleased how well things went, with Bexhill Rotary President Perry Puddefoot adding, “Thank you to everyone who contributed to the tea party.  Special thanks to David Dixson and his team, Brian and Phil for providing some musical intervention, and for MC John for his stand-up act.  Everyone I spoke to said what a great afternoon it had been, and St. Richards pupils had a brilliant time and want to come back again.  So thank you again for a great team effort.”
