FIGHTING POVERTY IN THE COMMUNITY

Our major Christmas initiative is to donate some of our funds to local organisations that are supporting local families in the fight against poverty.

Poverty manifests itself in a number of ways. Food, winter clothing, fuel, heat- to name just a few. Our local communities are facing an unprecedented economic challenge and our club has decided to target some of our funds on organisations that are in the front line of fighting poverty and assisting impoverished families get through what will undoubtably be a very tough winter.
This means the funds that we have accrued, given generously by our local communities who support our christmas float activities and the beer festival, can now be given back to the communities that need help.
We are looking for 10 organisations within our club area which consists of Newton, Earlestown, Lowton and Golborne, Burtonwood and Haydock that we can support over the coming months. We know that there are many organisations within our area who do some tremendous community work. For the moment we have identified five who we will initially donate to. Our club members are tasked with identifying further organisations that we can help.
As of December 6 we have chosen to donate as follows:
1. Golborne and Lowton churches
2. St Mark's Pantry Haydock (part of TANGO)
3. Cross Lane United Church, Earlestown. Warm space project
4. WA12 Crisis Fund- Five schools in Newton working together as a team to help those in need of a little support.
5. St John's Baptist Church Earlesown.
FURTHER UPDATED: JANUARY 23
We have now added two further organisations to our list:
6. St Pauls of the Cross School, Burtonwood.

7. Newton Community Centre: Warm Space project
