The 2023 event was a great success with 183 registrations and 159 runners on the day completing the challenging course on a warm dry afternoon. The event was organised as always for the community but also to raise funds for a nominated charity - this year's being CHAS, Childrens Hospices Across Scotland. The funds raised, including sponsorship from Malcolm Group and Bridge of Weir Leather will exceed £4000! Money is still comng in. This year for the first time the club also organised a Kids 2K Fun Run in the Houston Park as a prelude to the main event and this too was a success with 40 children (3 to 10) participating and being rewarded with CHAS tee-shirts.
The club is very grateful for the support of John Rodger and KAAC in organising the 10K Run, Peter Farley and his Houston United friends for organising the Kids Run, a whole host of members and friends who did the marshalling and provided the lunch, Barrs and local supermarkets that donated fruit and water.
10K Run
There was a strong continguent of runners from Kilbarchan (KAAC) and this perhaps led to a faster race with more runners than previously finishing in less than 42min.
First home was a new winner - Adam Templeton - in 34:10, someway ahead of Andrew Kirk who was second in 34.58 and Peter Tucker third in 35:46. Peter had been third in 2022 in a time 38:07.
The fastest lady again (and 12th overall) was Elaine Eadie in 39:32 (Elaine had been first lady in 2022 in 40:29).
Second lady was Elaine Hogg in 43:18 and third was Lorna Mitchell 44:28.
Congratulations to all of the above and to everyone who completed the run.
A special mention is due to Iain Carrick - a member of Gryffe Valley Rotary Club and one of the oldest entrants - completed the race in 46:53 and importantly won the trophy for the highest sponsored individual.
The full schedule of runners in order of their finishing times can be found here .
