Dr Vik Mohan is a GP in Topsham in Exeter and Director of Community Health for Blue Venture.
Blue Venture is a marine conservation their role is to restore the world’s oceans and improve the livelihoods of traditional fishing communities, this is done by resting large areas of the ocean allowing fish to be replenished, allowing small villages to feed their communities.
In 2005 they started a health care program in the villages to improve the health of all villagers.
The livelihoods and community health programmes specifically target women, offering them a range of family planning options and increasing their economic autonomy. These initiatives help to build women’s agency, providing a firm foundation to support progress towards gender equality. This has spread to other regions.
