David was a Paul Harris Fellow plus Bar (PH x2), which shows his commitment and hard work for the club, organising yearly spring bulb planting in Baysgarth Park and the Bridge Viewing Area, as well as in the Low Villages and Barrow.
Each year, when the flowers bloom in the park and the Daffodils flower at the sides of the road up to the Leisure Centre they will be a lasting memorial to David’s hard work.
A major project that he undertook in the winter of 2014, was to design the plan to plant 200 trees to form a Shelter Belt to protect the extension to Goxhill Cemetery. He supervised the planting by Rotary Club members and volunteers from Goxhill Parish Council. The trees are now growing well to make a beautiful wildlife area.
The club has carried out several litter picking operations around the town - all organised by David.
He was the contact point over many years, for Senior Citizens to telephone to order their Christmas Day Rotary Dinners, which he always helped to deliver. At the same time he also took names and organised the list of OAP’s who required collecting to attend the Christmas Concert.
He sometimes played the part of Santa for the Photos With Santa event at the Christmas Festival, occasionally falling asleep in the gaps between customers.
David missed very few weekly club meetings and we will all miss his company, stories and sense of humour that we enjoyed.
