Young Photographer 2023

Another successful event with a record number of entrants

Since 2009 our Youth team have worked closely with The Bewdley School to organise a Club round of the Rotary GB&I Young Photographer competition and this year it attracted a record number of 183 entries.

The theme this year was ‘The Beauty of Architecture’ and the manner in which the subject was interpreted led to some magnificent photos which gave the judges a really difficult job in choosing a winner. In fact in the Intermediate section the judges decided to award three runner up certificates.

On 2nd March a showcase was held at school with all entries on display and prizes and certificates awarded by President Keith.

All entrants received a certificate and all runner ups were awarded a Gift Voucher. In addition to their gift voucher the winners of each division received a copy of

the excellent book by Tom Ang titled Photography, History - Art - Technique.

Also present at the prize presentation were the Bewdley Mayor and Mayoress, Rod and Lynn Stanczyszyn, who had chosen one entry from each category which they particularly liked and awarded two special prizes. These went to Adam Bayliss, (Intermediate) and Sophie McDougall, (Senior). Our thanks go to Rod and Lyn for their generosity and their support.

In addition thanks also to the judges, our own Bob Hill, our Honorary Member and long time supporter Colin Hill and to Terry Livesey a local professional photographer and past parent of the school.

The competition would not run without the dedication of Jacqui Lord, Amanda Parsons and the team in the Art department at the school so a special thanks to them all.

The winning entries went forward to the District round of the competition and we were delighted to be told that both entries had won the District round and had gone forward to the national final.
