Ellesmere Rotary opportunities for primary school children

What is RotaKids?

RotaKids is a Primary School Citizenship programme that can be developed to suit any primary school. The programme is mainly aimed at ages 7-11, (Years 3-6)

Objectives
The main objective is to introduce Rotary ideals to young people, as well as addressing citizenship. An interested and willing teacher is the most essential ingredient.

How to Start a RotaKids
Contact us at Rotary Ellesmere and we will come to your school and explain the programme to the head teacher or another of the teaching staff. Then, we would come back at an agreed time to tell the youngsters a little bit about Rotary and explain how RotaKids works. The class teacher can then discuss ideas with the pupils in their citizenship lessons, and come up with a few project or fundraising suggestions. Rotary Ellesmere will support as required but the aim is always for the youngsters to have fun while they are raising money or serving the community. RotaKids Badges and T-shirts can reward engagement and completion of projects.

Benefits of RotaKids
For the young people it enlivens the curriculum. They learn about Citizenship and Teamwork and the application of curriculum core subjects indesigning and delivering community service projects.

The RotaKids Pledge:

As a RotaKid, I promise:
To be fair to all
To serve my community
To show respect for others

Rotary Stars Citizenship/Dogoodery Award- Information for teachers

What is the ‘Rotary Stars’ Citizenship Award?

It is a Rotary project which offers an opportunity to recognise and reward primary school age children for acts of good citizenship.

How does it work?

It really is simple.

Ø  Contact us and we'll come to your school and discuss the project with the head teacher or another appropriate teacher.

Ø  Staff are asked to nominate a certain number of children who have been exceptionally good citizens by helping / supporting others, the environment, their school, their community etc. In effect they would be demonstrating ‘Service above Self’.

Ø  Ellesmere Rotary recognises and rewards this good citizenship by presenting children with a Rotary Star certificate and a Rotary Star badge (if we can source them)

Is it an easy project to run?

Yes – it involves a relatively small amount of work by both Ellesmere Rotary and the school yet the rewards for individual children are immense.

Why is ‘Rotary Stars’ such a worthwhile project?

Whereas the majority of Rotary Youth Service projects / competitions cater predominantly for gifted and talented children, the ‘Rotary Stars’ project is open and suitable for all children irrespective of age, talent or academic ability. It is all down to personal achievement with no competition element.
