Gordon
MacKenzie’s talk was on the subject of vandalism.
Prompted by
the attacks on the new statue of Old Tom Morris, Gordon questioned why
vandalism occurred and reasons sometimes given to account for vandals’ actions.
He discussed
whether graffiti simply desecrated buildings or was seen in many instances to
be art. Could vandalism of say works of art by protesters be excused when said
to be promoting causes?
A lively
discussion followed Gordon’s stimulating talk.
Gordon was
introduced by president-elect David Gray and Isobel Clifford proposed a vote of
thanks.
