AK members, guests, and friends enjoyed a delightful evening at the home of President Colin and Davina as we celebrated another successful year filled with friendship and fun, culminating in an additional £10,000 raised for good causes.
Colin has kindly agreed to lead us into the next Rotary year as we explore ways to thrive despite our reduced numbers. Sadly, we are saying goodbye to Alec and Margaret Burford, who have been wonderful members over the years. Always cheerful and energetic, they are moving South to be closer to family, where they will undoubtedly continue to share their friendship with new groups and organisations.
As the Nation commemorated the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a moving tribute to Freedom, Reconciliation, and Peace was held at St Mary’s, featuring readings from various representatives, including Rotary members. The following Sunday, we helped with the D-Day Afternoon Teas at the Parish Centre, where locals and visitors enjoyed a happy social time and a singalong.
We were delighted to be asked to help again at the Langdale Gala, where we manned a busy gate and sold raffle tickets. The event took place against a stunning backdrop and featured traditional activities with various stalls, fell racing for both adults and children, Cumberland wrestling, a dog show, and the ever-popular ‘carry your wife race’ and egg throwing competition!
Despite being a small club, we are determined to continue supporting local, national, and global projects while having fun. We happily respond to the needs of others, often coming up with inventive fundraising ideas.
Gone are the days of formal meetings, chains of office, mandatory weekly attendance, and strict membership rules and regulations – an approach we have always embraced!
Thank you one and all.
