WHAT WE DO AROUND THE WORLD - INTERNATIONAL 24/25
The following plan was presented at Club assembly for our support to International projects this Rotary year
International Committee : Summary of Plans for 2024-25
Our ongoing project . . .
Newclare Primary School – Situated in a deprived area on the outskirts of Johannesburg, surrounded by drugs and associated gun crime, the school functions with limited resources.
Last year we supported the schools library refurbishment programme, which is proving to be a major benefit for the children. It has been redecorated, reordered and partially restocked.
The teachers' vision for the future is to extend the newly refurbished library area to become a Learning Resource Centre with an IT area, tables and chairs where the learners can do their homework and private study, with a soft seating area where they can just relax and read, removed from the troubles outside.
This next phase will require some minor construction work, redecoration and furnishing, not to mention the provision of laptops.
The International Team will continue to work with and support Newclare Primary School in the coming Rotary year.
Our existing longer-term commitments include . . .
Foundation – Polio Plus
International Children’s Trust (ICT) – To support the education of two boys in India;
SOS Children’s Villages – To support the development of two girls in Tanzania and Ethiopia.
Rotary Shoebox Scheme
Opportunity International
In addition to the above we will consider reasonable donations to the following causes, subject to need and
available funds. . .
Mary’s Meals
Global Sight Solutions
Water Aid
Candlelight for Empowerment
Disaster Aid
If there is a major disaster in the world we would look to the club to give financial support to help the people
involved to recover, either through a Rotary co-ordinated initiative or via other aid agencies, as is most appropriate and as funds permit.
On behalf of the International Committee, I commend this programme to the Club.
