The Rotary Club of Senlac St Leonards’ speaker on Wednesday 2 April was David Chaplin who treated the club to both a humorous and serious talk about his life’s work. David spoke of his early time as a suitor to the daughter of the Vinehall Preparatory schools’ headmaster to his rise to being headmaster himself. He then spoke of his work in Rwanda following his visit after the earthquake in 2008. There he was confronted with abject poverty and the lack of social care to such an extent he felt he should try to help. He founded the charity Rwanda Action, formerly Rwanda Aid, which aims to help alleviate poverty by empowering people to help themselves and others. Projects include accommodation, farming, education and trade training.
The charity’s work is described in detail on their website www.rwanda-action.org
