Remembering a Friend

On the 1st March 2025, Rotarian Don Cliffe PHF passed to higher service, at the age of nearly 96 years. 

As a Rotarian of approaching 55 years standing and a member of our club for over 20 years he will be greatly missed by those members who knew him. 

It is surreal to be writing this digital tribute to a man whose printed monthly newsletters form the core of our club archive. His appreciation of the power of communication in an age when emails where in their infancy and Facebook was yet to appear, was visionary. Not satisfied with written communication he was also an avid participator in Rotary Radio where he met people from all over the world.

Don joined us from Heanor Rotary Club where he had been President and quickly became Chair of our Commuity, Vocational and Youth Committee. His background in Education saw him identify and support students who attended the Rotary District Musicians Concert  and the Rotary Youth Leader scheme. He helped to raise funds for numerous charities and was a champion for the distribution of dictionaries to local schools.

Our thoughts are with his family and in particular Daphne who always supported Don fully in his commitment to Rotary. Thanks for sharing him with us.
