Zapping Poverty in Zanzibar - talk by Ruth Eve

Wed, May 19th 2010 at 12:00 am - 2:00 am

Supper meeting - open to members, partners, potential members, guests. Steward: Ross Dike. Vote of thanks: Erroll Bateman.

Ruth is Richard Eve's (one of our club members) youngest child and is 17 years old. She is a Sixth Form pupil and Prefect at Headington Girls School Oxford and is studying the International Bacalaureate (IB) specialising in Spanish and Geography.

The IB course, as well as being academically challenging (6 Subjects), expects students to be socially and environmentally aware on both a local and international level. Therefore, as part of her course she has to identify a worthwhile international charity, understand its objectives, and become actively involved in both raising money and ensuring its delivery to the needy. Therefore she has become involved with the Zanzibar Action Project - www.zanzibaraction.co.uk - which has entailed raising funds to support specific educational and vocational projects there.

Her brilliant talk outlined her carreer to date, her interest in charity work, her impressive fundraising for ZAP and her planned visit to Zanzibar in the July 2010.
Adam Buckland, Mayor of Thame, and his wife Sinead were also the club's guests. In the picture - from left to right: Adam and Sinead Buckland, Ruth Eve, Peter Todd.
