Charities supported 2009-10

Club Council has chosen the following main charities for this year - others will be supoprted when needed


 

Megan Baker House - supporting children and families by providing Conductive  Education  to those with Cerebral Palsy. The Centre also provides treatment for adults with stroke and  Parkinsons disease, as well as providing accommodation to those families who need it. http:/www.meganbakerhouse.org.uk                                                                                 

Leonard Cheshire Disability supports over 21,000 disabled people in the UK and works in 52 countries. The organisation campaigns for change and provide innovative services that give disabled people the opportunity to live life their way. http://www.lcdisability.org/                                 

Mid Powys MIND helps people take control of their mental health. The organisation do this by providing high-quality information and advice and campaigning to promote and protect good mental health for everyone. http://www.mind.org.uk/help/mind_in_your_area/118            

Powys Young Carers helping children and young people up to the age of 16 who have caring responsibilities from someone who has a physical or mental illness, a physical or learning disability or a drug or alcohol problem.                                                   http://powyscarers.org.uk/s/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=31&Itemid=77     

Wales Air Ambulance - an all Wales charity providing a vital service through emergency air cover for those who face life-threatening illness or injuries. http://www.walesairambulance.com/ 

Midlands Air Ambulance - the Charity responsible for funding and operating three Air Ambulances serving the Midlands and Welsh border region. http://www.midlandsairambulance.com/ 

Knighton and District Community Support The project is responsive to local needs and provides a Community Car Scheme for those unable to make hospital, doctors, dentists appointments etc. It also provides a subsidised taxi voucher programme, a Good Neighbours programme which includes a Gardening and a Befriending service.                                                                                           

Presteigne and Norton Community Support The Community Transport project recruits volunteers who use their own cars to take qualifying locals to hospital and GP appointments.
Drivers are paid expenses and the client pays a mileage fee for a door to door service.

Rotary Shelterbox http://www.shelterbox.org/  ShelterBox is an international disaster relief charity that delivers emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disaster worldwide
