The Rotary Club of Thornhill & District recently hosted its annual Young Chef of the Year competition in Sanquhar Academy. Five young chefs from the school took part in the contest which was sponsored by local food product producers Brown Brothers. Judging the competition was Ian McAndrew, Chef and Proprietor of the Award Winning Blackaddie House Hotel in Sanquhar and Shirley Johnson, formerly Proprietor of Mennockfoot Lodge Hotel. In his summing up before announcing the winner, Ian McAndrew said 'This was a very close fought contest with all food very well presented and some very good combinations but at the end of the day we agreed that Sophie's creation just edged ahead of the others.'
The contest was organised by Thornhill Rotarian Sharon Tait and the winner will go forward to the Dumfries and Galloway final to be held shortly in Lockerbie.
