Dismal cloudy skies and occasional showers gave way to the warm sunshine that welcomed both teams to the inaugural Bowls Match, Oswestry Rotary Club v. Church Bowling Club, held at the Church green in Oswestry.

Dismal cloudy skies and occasional showers gave way to the warm sunshine that welcomed both teams to the inaugural Bowls Match, Oswestry Rotary Club v. Church Bowling Club, held at the Church green in Oswestry.

As is now customary in such events, the expertise of the Rotary Club bowlers varied widely from a few experienced players to complete beginners but any lack of skill was more than matched by an obvious keenness and enthusiasm to take part.

Certainly, there was considerably more laughter, good natured banter and helpful advice between the two sides than one would normally expect and this provided a lovely way in which to spend a couple of hours on a Summer evening.  Whilst the casual observer may have suspected a win for the talented Church side, the official scorers declared the result to be a closely contested affair and the game Rotarians would never argue with the Referee's decision.

The newly constructed facilities at the ground are very impressive and all the Rotarians felt a great deal of pride in the thought that we had helped the go ahead Church BC to achieve such improvements  -  yet another example of Rotary in action locally in a meaningful manner.

After play, the interaction between the teams and their much appreciated supporters continued in a nearby hostelry where the Church BC provided a generous feast for all and a fitting conclusion to an evening of fun and fellowship.
