Rotary Club of Thame’s Collection of Unwanted Tools

The Rotary Club of Thame asked the public to check their sheds and lofts and bring their old tools in the main car park of Thame near the Market House, Montesson Square on Saturday morning 12 May between 9:00 and 14:00. As a result - over one tonne of old tools were collected, including a few Singer sewing machines manufactured around 1930's.

The club is grateful to Thame Service Station who have kindly provided a large van to transport the collected tools to 'Tools for Self Reliance'  headquarters near Southampton.

Every year the Rotary Club of Thame runs a collection point for unwanted tools. These are then taken to 'Tools for Self Reliance' at Netley Marsh near Southampton. The latter are a charity which refurbishes them and sends them to NGO's in Africa. The NGO's then distributes them FREE to men and women which helps them to obtain work.

Rotarian Erroll Bateman said: "The Rotary Club of Thame would like to thank everyone who checked their garages and lofts and brought their unwanted items to us. This will give many craftsmen in Africa a chance to put their skills to good use for the benefit of their families and communities - as we believe it is a worthy cause."
